Manuscript Submission Guidelines

Once you’ve sent us a query and we’ve requested your manuscript, please send it to us both on paper and as an email attachment, following the guidelines below.

Finished Work

Please do not send us your manuscript until you are finished editing it. Changes may come up: if they do, please make sure you notify us of each individual change, and the context. Be aware that if we accept your manuscript for publication, we are accepting the one we have read, not a later version.

File Format

The whole manuscript should be contained in one file, if possible. (Why wouldn’t it be possible? If your computer is old, or your internet connection is slow or cuts out with large transfers.)

Please use Microsoft Word format. Please attach only one file, titled something like this: shakespeare_midsummernight.doc . If you can’t use .doc format, we can accept rich text (.rtf) or plain text (.txt)

Identification and Page Numbers

Use your software’s “headers” feature to include your name and the title on every page. If you’re submitting your file in plain text, you won’t be able to include headers. In that case, you can just include the information on the first page. But the print version should definitely have it on every page.

Please also use your software’s “footers” feature to include a page number at the bottom of every page. As above, this is especially important for the print version.

Fonts and Layout: Nothing fancy.

All of your text should be the same size, and other than occasional italics where needed, there should be nothing fancy. It’s the words we are interested in, not how big you can make them, or what color.

  • Margins: 1″
  • Font: 12 pt Courier or 12 pt Times.
  • Black ink, white paper.
  • No graphics.
  • Chapters start on a new page. Ideally, each starts with the word “chapter” and a number, and a chapter title if you have one. No fonts, colors, lines, etc.

Note that if your book actually includes integrated illustrations, you could talk with us about that before sending your manuscript.
